The Department of Zoology was established in 2021 and affiliated with North-Eastern Hill University in 2023. The Department's objective is to promote zoological education and conservation to the highest standards. The Department offers a three-year undergraduate degree (B.Sc.) in zoology that gives students a thorough understanding of the subject's principles and applications. As part of the curriculum, the Department also arranges field trips for students. In addition, the Department has implemented a four-year undergraduate program (FYUP) starting with the 2023–24 academic session in response to the adoption of the National Education Policy, 2020. The Department is equipped with Laboratory allowing students to perform the experiments. The faculty provides mentorship and academic support to ensure students’ success and overall well-being. Additionally, the department encourages extracurricular activities and leadership development to enhance students’ personal growth. 
 

Some potential career paths and opportunities for graduates with a B.Sc. Zoology Honours include research, teaching, Laboratory Technician, wildlife conservation, environmental management, Veterinary Science, and economical zoology (apiculture, sericulture, pisciculture, etc.).

The Department organized a seminar on 26th of August, 2022 that was presented by students. This program motivates students to enhance their presentation skills.

The Zoology Laboratory is an educational space where students engage in hands-on activities, experiments, and observations focused on the study of animals and their biology. This laboratory serves as a place for practical exploration, enhancing students' understanding of animal diversity, behavior, anatomy, physiology, and ecological interactions. The laboratory is equipped with a variety of tools and resources to facilitate in-depth learning experiences: microscopes, dissection equipment, specimen collections, preserved specimens for study, models, charts, and interactive displays that illustrate different aspects of zoology.
